Valley of the Moon Water District

In a unanimous vote on April 7, 2015, the Valley of the Moon Water District (VOMWD) Board of Directors approved an agenda consent calendar item authorizing a letter to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, stating VOMWD opposition to the proposed fluoridation of water provided by the Sonoma County Water Agency.

In rejecting the proposed water fluoridation, the VOMWD letter makes three points, citing:
1. fluoridation costs, which would contravene the current contract between SCWA and VOMWD, unless approved,
2. groundwater concerns, and
3. potential public misunderstanding of varying fluoridation levels due to District production wells.

Valley of the Moon Water District was established in 1962. The District provides water to over  23,000 people in the Sonoma Valley, and is a Prime contractor with the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA).
